Carbon tax is generating more heat than global warming

Contribution of carbon dioxide towards global warming is negligible. A degree or so increase is no comparison to 10 or 20 degrees Celsius difference in daily minimum and maximum temperatures. When somewhere in the world experiences drought, another part will receive the extra rainfall, which means while somewhere experiences higher temperature, another part of the world is colder or else the rain will not fall.

The reason why Australia is high on carbon dioxide production per capita is because of her small population. In any business, there are always fixed and variable costs involved. The same principle applies here that certain amount of carbon dioxide produced is fixed no matter how small the population is.

Compounding this is transmission of power over vast distances to generally very low population density cities and towns, unlike many smaller but higher population density European or Asian countries.

If coal power plants are closed, the brown coal will either laid buried in the ground in Australia, or dumped in the world market.

The latter option will be a total disaster for the future of our planet - assuming that coal power plants are evil. Developing countries will be buying the coal to power their generators, likely to be dirtier than our existing plants, creating more pollution than anyone can ever imagine.

Australia plays tough and acts as the good guy, but it actually is an accessory to the murder of planet Earth!

Coal power plants use a lot of Australian resources and labour - good for our own economy and employment. The resources are not overseas import and the labour cannot be outsourced overseas.

Starting from mining the brown coal to the final stage of burning it, involves a long chain of industries - transport, fuel, supply and maintenance of all related plant, equipment and vehicle, food and beverages, uniform, accommodation, etc.

It is undeniable that China is the factory of the world. Anything or component can be built in a country can be built in China at much lower cost.

China is going to release her new aircraft C919 at USD50m each in less than 5 years time to compete with Airbus A320 at USD93m and Boeing 737 at USD80m respectively, is a clear demonstration that any equipment and components used for renewable energy power plants will likely be manufactured in China at a fraction of the cost.

Loss of employment is disastrous and NOT renewable. Don't be a statistics!

Year after year, utilities and rates charges increase at a rate higher than the CPI (or loosely speaking the inflation rate), while the increase of the inflation rate itself remains relatively low. This only means that the imported goods are cheaper or getting cheaper, and that spells doom to our self-sufficiency and manufacturing industries.

For the past decade, Australia has been riding high on the primary and tertiary (service) industries. On the contrary, the secondary (manufacturing) industry is fixed on reverse gear. Business confidence and consumer confidence had been very high. Although Australia is a large island far away from the rest of the world, it is not isolated from them economically. It is time Australia has to face the music.

Australia has been blessed by the increasing demand of coal and iron ore in China, Korea, Japan, and India. However, the fortune of some these countries have changed and will change negatively as a result of the financial misfortune and financial mismanagement of other countries or natural disasters that have occurred within. The demand of minerals will decline because Australia’s buyers are experiencing lower demand of their products.

Service or tertiary industries flourish during boom time, be it local, national or worldwide. This is evident in the downturn of Australia’s tourism industry. On the local scene, retail and housing industries have slowed down dramatically, too.

In recent weeks, the world climatic conditions have gone topsy-turvy. Soaring heat waves hit many states in USA as well as large part of Europe. Scandinavian and Baltic countries experience many more warm sunny days than usual. China has unusual big floods that affect millions of people. To a smaller extent, Australia did not escape the destructive force of Mother Nature.

How can things just happen so suddenly? Is it due to global warming, extra-terrestrial influence or activities taking place under the surface and within the Earth? During the last few years, large earthquake, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions cause immense damages to many cities and affected neighbouring countries. There is no way in the world that these natural disasters are caused by global warming. On the contrary, these could be the cause of global warming!

Carbon tax is a nonsensical tax. Will Australians be taxed for polluting the planet by exhaling carbon dioxide every time they breathe out? Some Australians may be a few dollars better off the first year of carbon tax implementation, but the benefit will go sour in subsequent years because inflation will swallow up all the miserable handouts.

Few years ago, Target 155 was introduced by the former Victorian government to encourage people to save water during the drought. It was a very successful campaign. The success of the campaign lied not on taxing the Victorians; people used over 155 litres per person per day were not penalised, and yet majority of the Victorians wanted to save water. Saving water and energy should be a way of life, and NOT political or economic policies imposed by the Government.

If the government really want to flex her muscle, deadlines can be imposed on industries to clean up their act, invest in alternative power generation or their business registration / licence will not be renewed. Taxes on any industry will have a flow on effect on ordinary people. No business wants to be shut down!

By ignoring the poll is a sign of arrogance to the nth degree, self-centredness and disrespectful of the intelligence of the Australian public.

Will Julia Gillard continue to ignore what the rest of Australia is telling her that she is NOT on the right track?

If the sea water is getting more saline, then melting ice will dilute it, marine lives will not be facing extinction.

If the land is getting arid, the rising water will irrigate it, deserts will become productive land.

If the underground water table is sinking, the excess water flowing inland will fill it, many high rise buildings will not face destruction.

Everything happens for a reason, and that's the beauty of nature! Climate change gives us hope and new lease of life!

Australia entering 'decades of boom' or 'decades of doom'

The predictive economic models are questionable for modern day use. The yesteryear world was "larger" and separated by barriers, and things moved more slowly. Debt borrowing was not as prevalent then.

It is evident that when US sneezes, the world catches a cold, and Australia stock market becomes infected with pneumonia – it was hit hard by the loss of $33 billion in a day on 2 June 2011.

The head of Treasury, Dr Martin Parkinson, told the senate hearing that, "Mining is 8 per cent of gross domestic product," and continued to say "It's a very important 8 per cent, but there's a very important 92 per cent of GDP which is out there which for some reason we have stopped talking about." I would argue that this 8 per cent is far more important than the rest of 92 per cent, because without this 8 per cent, the rest of domestic consumption will stall.

Mining industry is a primary industry, and so far the boom is centred in Western Australia and Queensland. Mother Nature has not been kind to Queensland, but not too cruel to spare Western Australia. If Mother Nature can do that to Australia, the supplier of natural resources, it can also do the same to our buyers. We have witnessed Mother Nature’s did not spare Japan from the destructive force of tsunami. Australian iron ore export to Japan has dropped so drastically because the Japanese car manufacturing plants are closed. Sorry if I am sinful to sound like cursing China; what if China experiences something catastrophic that Australian exports to this biggest buyer has to come to a halt?

I am a true believer that Australia’s economy is fundamentally depending on the land as a primary producer. However, we have not made full use of our gift of large land mass. We keep digging for iron ore and coal, and the rest of Australia, or those working in the service / tertiary industries, benefited from the activities.

With the carbon (dioxide) tax on large carbon emitters, which unfortunately means the coal-fired power stations, the future of coal use in Australia will be decreased. What is Australia going to do with the coal? Will it stay in the ground or sell it to countries like China or India? Coal mining billionaire tycoons have so much of their money buried underground, and so many coal miners’ mouths to feed; they cannot afford not to sell the coal overseas even at low prices. What guarantees that these countries do not pollute the world more than Australia?

Australia, with the bleeding hearts politicians and former politicians like Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd, Bob Hawke, Malcolm Turnbull, Malcolm Fraser, John Hewson, is naïve to the nth degree. Australia loses export income for low coal prices, becomes an accessory to the murder of planet Earth, causes unnecessary financial stress, pain and suffering to Australian families and deprives them quiet enjoying of this lucky country.

Before mining boom, sheep and wheat kept Australia prosperous, and what a lucky country! What has Australia done to the land and water supply? Virtually nothing, and as a result, Mother Nature punished Australia and brought forth drought. Australia was unprepared, and suffered from losses of production and income.

Money from government assistance or funding does not really come from the government; it comes from taxpayers. The money just rides on the merry-go-round. Real money to fill the kitty should derive from exporting things for money to overseas.

With millions and millions of hectares of land, Australia should be the food bowl of the world, and yet, the people are too complacent, contented and relaxed, and import foods from overseas; and most disgustingly, selling off the rural land particularly the productive ones to foreigners. What this means, Australia will buy foods from overseas companies, foods that are grown in Australian soil by Australian labour, at the price controlled by foreigners. What a joke?

Out of the blue the most prosperous European country, Germany, is hit with E-coli problem, which appears to be food-borne. Only if Australia is able to supply fresh foods cheaply by utilising the farmland more productively and intuitively, this could be a golden opportunity.

Have I missed out secondary industry? No, I have not; because there are not many around to create real employment. One after another, factories are closed or sold off. The so-called Australian icons that Australians are proud of have become history. The lack of foresight and poor planning are due to the arrogance and blindness of Australians and the Australian politicians. They do not take heed from what have been happening in United States of America and United Kingdom.

Smart countries, instead of benefitting the workforce from years of precious time, hard work and money spent in R&D, they stupidly transfer the technology to the developing countries and make the population of those countries smarter at minimal costs, leaving behind a pool of technologically knowledge poor and unemployed workforce. Put it simply, how many smart countries have factories producing hi-tech equipment, digital television, computers, solar-cells, computer chips, luxurious cars, etc.?

Economy is about supply and demand, and utilising limited resources in productive matter. If resources are limited, then the only way to survive for long term is diversification. So what should Australia do?

Many policies can be changed with the stroke of a pen, despite what the politicians have been telling us. The many debates in the Parliament are no more than theatrical performances by the Government and the Opposition.

New predictive economic models need to be found. At present, RBA should NOT increase interest rate to curb the so called inflation, because there is NO real inflation but human suffering in the economy. Private consumption with borrowed money is not a true reflection of GDP growth!

Many financial advisers tell their clients not to put their eggs into one basket, and have their assets, namely shares, properties and superannuation, apportioned proportionately. Ideally, I would like to postulate the following regarding GDP contributions:

For every 1 part contribution from primary industry, there are an equal part from secondary industry and 3 parts from tertiary industry.

Commenting on “China admits Three Gorges Dam has 'urgent problems' as drought persists”

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/05/25/china.three.gorges.dam/index.html

Back in 8 November 2006, David Dreverman, head of the Murray-Darling river basin commission (Australia), said: "This is more typical of a one in a 1,000-year drought, or possibly even drier, than it is of a one in 100-year event." In 9 January 2011, South Australian water broker Waterfind said that "Historic odds indicate 2011 will also be a year of high rainfall within the basin as there has only been one time in the past 110 years".

It is unfortunate that the people living downstream of Yangtze River are experiencing hardship, but I doubt very much this is contributed by the Three Gorges Dam Project. In four years time, everyone will be celebrating when rain falls heavily again, and the people will be spared from flood and drowning, and the dam will go down in history as one of the greenest development of mankind.

Anyone remembers Target 155 during water restriction period? There was no tax imposed on the public, even when someone used above the target; and yet people were chipping in to make this Target campaign a success. Why can't we do this for carbon dioxide emission reduction?

CFC is suppose to destroy the ozone layer making ozone hole bigger and allowing more UV ray to reach the Earth surface causing skin cancer. There was not a tax on CFC and yet the blanket ban of CFC use worked.

Furthermore commonsense tells us that carbon tax will not help to cool the Earth, only global cooling technology can do the job.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/climate-commission-gives-sceptics-a-cold-wrap/story-e6frf7jo-1226060662201

Each year 4 quintillion Joules (4 x 10 to the power of 18 Joules) of solar energy reaches the Earth, but only 300 trillion Joules (3 x 10 to the power 14 Joules) are consumed by the world's population. There is plenty of energy left to warm the Earth. No wonder "the atmosphere is warming, the ocean is warming, ice is being lost from glaciers and ice caps, and sea levels are rising."

I challenge Julia Gillard and all those climate scientists to give me an answer to this very simple question - where does the excess heat from the Sun that is not used up each day go to? This is so fundamental and yet these idiots can only come up with the most ridiculous argument that the heat is trapped by greenhouse gases which melt the ice.

The culprit causing global warming is the Sun, and greenhouse gases play an insignificant role in aggravating the process. Even without greenhouse gases, heat absorbed at the lower atmosphere level and by the oceans cannot dissipate fast enough to the almost-freezing upper atmosphere, unless the Earth rotation is slowed down so as to increase the duration of night for more heat to escape.

The melting ice cannot be reversed unless Earth’s temperature drops to sub-zero, which means the Earth has to experience another Ice Age. In short, Julia Gillard and the idiotic scientists expect us to freeze to death so that new icebergs can be formed again. During the new Ice Age, no one is allowed to turn on heaters, because that will increase the air temperature!

Increasing taxes set off a chain reaction in increasing prices of other consumer goods, utilities and other commodities. We can expect more closures of factories and even education institutions, increase in bankruptcies, unemployment, life-style stress, mental illness, homelessness and social unrest. What is the point of having a clean planet if ordinary people cannot enjoy, or in the worst case, without any human around to enjoy?

Julia Gillard must be the love child of Pinocchio and the big bad red-hair wolf which ate Red Riding Hood’s grandma!

Malcolm Turnbull's climate policy is a sad case

Carbon tax does not do anything to cool the Earth. It only makes the temperature of hardworking Australians go up to warm the Earth further.

Commonsense tells us that to counteract any warming, we need cooling or heat absorption. Swapping coal-fired power generation plants with solar or wind-driven ones only slows down the warming process negligibly, because the carbon dioxide discharge is so small percentage wise. Every year, bush fires and volcanic eruptions release more greenhouse pollutants than existing power plants.

It is so obvious that the Sun energy poured onto our planet everyday is not used up, and the excess is causing the warming of the atmosphere and the oceans.

Implementing carbon tax is going set up an economic chain reaction, more disastrous than any nuclear explosion. Besides increase in domestic electricity bills, all industries relying on electricity will be affected, and the cost will be passed on to the consumers.

Unfortunately carbon storage is not a feasible solution. A plausible answer is to grow high carbohydrate plants which acts as a carbon sink and helps solve starvation. Anyone supporting Gillard, her goons, and shit stirrer Turnbull are wearing blinkers.

It is sad that so much time and effort have been spent in talking about ETS and carbon tax that nothing really constructive has been done in nation building. Since Kevin Rudd came to power, one policy after another failed miserably leading to huge financial losses. So what he rectified the Kyoto Protocol, did other countries pay much attention to it? Let's look at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; many countries are experiencing natural disasters, and they really want to keep their people feed, and housed. Australia is facing the same problem, and billions of dollars are needed to restore the many lives to normality.

Many large Tsunamis happened in Japan long before Industrial Revolution. Pompeii was destroyed by fire and Atlantis sunk to the bottom of the ocean. These destructions were inevitable because human beings just cannot tame our planet Earth and Mother Nature. Carbon tax is no panacea, and Julia Gillard is no saviour.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/abbott-keeps-libs-ahead-labor/story-fn59niix-1226048740618

Well done, Tony for your effort. Carbon tax is NOT a goer, and you are right to campaign against it. Carbon tax does not solve global warming, because the sun energy will continue to heat up our planet with the introduction of carbon tax. However, your approach in burying the carbon dioxide is not a good idea, too. When carbon dioxide is formed, one carbon atom combines with two oxygen atoms. This is analogous to oxygen depletion. Locking up the carbon dioxide also means locking up oxygen.

I have better alternatives. One is grow more carbohydrate (polysaccharides) which can be used as carbon sink as well as food for millions of hungry people in the world when harvested. Large carbon emitters and the greenies will not object such proposal, and in fact the former will be seen as environmental friendly global citizens. It also makes their triple bottom line look good.

The second alternative is to dehumidify moisture in the atmosphere. Water vapour is a bigger greenhouse culprit, worse than carbon dioxide. Atmospheric dehumidification may one day become just as popular as collection of rain water.

What a load of idiotic mumbo jumbo about unsustainable growth! Do we use up the natural resources? No, the natural resources are dug up and export to overseas for cash to line the billionaire pockets, and government. Oops, the experts also get a share for their crystal gazing!

Instead of building dams to meet growing population, channel excessive water from the north to irrigate large areas of harsh arid land, cultivating crops where suitable climatic conditions prevail, many Australians including the politicians are too complacent, and refuse to change the way they do things.

Compounding the problem is that many scientists and economists come up with crappy doomsday predictive models scaring the hell out of everyone, with simple solution like reducing population growth.

I have written an article in respond to a news item saying that China's economy is about to overtake US in 2015. China was a poor miserable underdeveloped country 3 decades ago, but now she is supporting a population of 1.3 billion and yet can win the economic race - it is a modern day fairy tale! Australia has only 23 million people, but keeps whinging about the size of the population – this is just laughable!

Stop releasing balloons, stop killing the defenceless

On Saturday, 2 April 2011, many balloons were released at St Kilda to mark the autism week. This also marks the death of many defenceless animals and marine lives. Why?

These people are no different from many who release hundreds of balloons in "celebrating life" (for the deceased) events at funerals.

It is important to understand that once the helium gas has escaped from the balloons, they will fall into the rivers, streams, paddocks, etc. and pollute the environment and suffocate birds, small animals and marine lives.

Stop releasing balloons, stop pollution NOW!

Global warming, climate change and carbon tax discussion

Many academics and specialists can be very one track mind, and it is important to look at global warming / climate change holistically.

I don't deny climate change and global warming. Climate change happens every day - just look at the daily temperature fluctuation. Human beings can tolerate extreme climate change. Air travel enables transporting travellers from the Pole experiencing below zero temperature to desert with sizzling high temperature in less than a day. With change of clothing, the travellers survive!

As for global warming, it is real from day one! In fact, with 75% of the Earth's surface being covered by water, most of the heat is absorbed by the oceans. No wonder the ocean temperature keeps increasing, and indeed, the rise in temperature is caused by global warming!

Do we really expect the planet to get cooled? If so, what cools it and how is it done? Global warming is here to stay, unless human race starts to work on a reversal process in cooling the Earth, Kyoto Protocol and ETS are just band aid approaches.

Most scientists only concern about carbon dioxide as a green house gas keeping the Earth temperature warm. If carbon dioxide is increasing in the atmosphere, what gases are being replaced or displaced? Does increase in carbon dioxide affect the atmospheric pressure? How will increase / decrease in atmospheric pressure affect the weather, living things, including human beings on Earth?

One carbon atom needs two oxygen atoms to form carbon dioxide. Assuming the amount of gases in the atmosphere remain unchanged, oxygen on Earth will diminish. What is the repercussion with reduced amount of oxygen in the atmosphere, and in the meantime, the population is on the increase?

Hardly any ordinary citizen can remember the ozone hole, and no one is talking about it now. Ozone O3 is found mainly in the upper atmosphere. It absorbs ultraviolet UV radiation better than oxygen O2. UV radiation is known to cause skin cancer. Ozone depletion, supposedly caused by chlorofluorocarbon CFC, allows more UV radiation to reach the Earth's surface, thus putting human health at risk.

Interestingly though, chlorine radical present in CFC catalyses the conversion of ozone into oxygen, and thus increases the amount of oxygen that has been depleted by the process of oxidation of carbon.

There was no tax on CFC production, but there was a blanket ban on production and usage of CFC. I have not been able to obtain any data on whether there is any reduction of skin cancer as a result of banning the production and usage of CFC.

Will carbon tax help to cool the Earth? No way, it only makes the temperature of a lot of Australians including myself goes up and get really heated up which leads to further global warming, ha-ha!

However, the carbon tax will force the large carbon emitters to increase their production cost which in turn will pass on to the users of power, and the final suffers are the Australian public at large. The financial compensation by the government only creates non-productive employments for paper shufflers and public servants, and sends the wrong message that it is alright not to reduce energy consumption.

Look up beyond the upper atmospheres and see how air exchanges can be improved. It’s time, Al Gore returns his Nobel Prize, and climate gurus and professors read more Chemistry and Physics books rather than just on climate reference material!

Think about it before the next raindrop falls

Many new residential blocks are small, and the house, driveway and garage occupy most of the land, leaving very little room for plants. Although earlier subdivided land sizes are bigger, many people have turned the non build-up areas into rock gardens or concreted outdoor area due to busy life style. Rain is not absorbed, and goes down to the drain literally. With fewer plants, absorption of carbon dioxide is reduced, and in the meantime, emission of oxygen is reduced as well.

Adapt or perish

Our life span is not that long, so we don't really know whether this is a regular phenomenon. One thing I am sure of, Earth / ocean warming is due to the trillions of joules of Sun energy pouring onto the Earth each day, which is absorbed by the ocean.

Don't let idiots spread the rumours that the dinosaur's farts, shits or burps emitted enough carbon dioxide or methane gas to cause atmospheric pollution resulting in Ice Age!

We have to accept the fact the temperatures will rise with time, and we must learn to adapt to the environmental changes. If we fail to recognise the importance of living with prevalent conditions, we will experience the same consequence as what had happened to the dinosaurs. On the contrary, if we are smart, we will live forever more like the insects.
